A Boy and His Dog (Jones, 1975)

Heyyyy, a post-apocalypse movie. I love them so much. A destroyed world always fascinates me.

In this movie, the world has been destroyed by World War IV. To me, that’s already a unique approach, as most movies like these would have had World War III destroy the world, but apparently, nations weren’t that affected by WW3, but part four has fucked everything up. Vic walks the barely populated wastelands with his dog, Blood. The land is filled with roaming gangs and barely any women (any that is discovered is quickly raped and eventually killed).

Vic and Blood are BFFs and usually I would not be fond of man-dog relationships, but this movie handles it in a sillier and weirder way. Vic can telepathically communicate with Blood and this is silly, but I quickly warmed up to it. Blood also is able to detect females if they are in the vicinity and this is useful for Vic, because he needs some girl to fuck.

Eventually, the movie adds a woman to the mix and there is also a secret society that is closed off and has a closely-knit society that wears clown makeup and old colonial suits. Huh? Yes, huh.

Strange enough to deserve its cult status.
