IMHO, it's a winner.

I installed it using VMWare, and it runs fine, but doesn't say much about performance, so I installed it on a Sony Vaio, with a Pentium M, 1.6 Ghz processor, 512 MB DDR1 RAM and a nVidia 6200 Go card, and it runs very well. Some drivers weren't detected tho, and that's a pain in the arse. I'm assuming it's because it's a Beta version, many drivers haven't been included? I never had a driver issue with Vista Business or Ultimate.

I also installed it on a Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop (sisters) similar specs to the one above, except for the ATI Radeon 9700 card and 1.25 GB RAM, and had missing drivers, which was fixed by Windows Update. However, I still can't find Realtek WLAN drivers for either laptop, so she has to use the 'net using a network cable.

On both laptops, the OS is smooth, and feels refined. However, I hope I find compatible drivers!

I just wanted to try it out, and MS was offering it as a free download (which crashed their website initially).

I've seen a marketing presentation of Windows 7, and it just looks like a slicker version of Vista. There are some nifty features with how you arrange the windows in your taskbar (and manage them with right-clicks), but all the R&D on improving the user experience with their shitty Windows Live search engine and IE browser will be wasted, since no one uses either.

I've used Vista extensively, and grew to like it...but Windows 7 is a huge improvement, and less of a resource hog. The Live features are lame though.

A winner so far. Found the driver for the WLAN, it was a generic Intel Pro type, and I found it on the Intel website under Vista Beta drivers. Everything else was automatically picked up, as mentioned in the earlier post. No BSOD yet.

i must admit it feels alot better then the vista beta, but i cant get it to work on my old ATI graphics card Sad and so no hardware acceleration and no shininess.

But worth a shot. It does look a lot like vista. Ill try to install it on my desktop and come back with more...

In the same vein as this thread, should I make a thread about Ubuntu Linux's 9.03 release last week?
