This is a prequel of sorts to the new season that starts here in America tonight.
Redemption is a 2-hour TV movie that catches up with Jack after Season 6. He is now in Africa, living and working with...missionaries.
If that wasn't hokey enough, the Jack of
Redemption is different from the Jack we remember in
24 -- he is a weepie, moralistic hero who can sacrifice himself for irritating, Dakota Fanning-esque African kids at the drop of a hat. And if you thought
Shooting Dogs was bad, then
Redemption gives that melodramatic turd of white-man-guilt-and-condescension a run for its money.
The later seasons of
24 have been many things, but never have they been this poorly written and acted. I read somewhere that during last night's Golden Globes, when they announced Kiefer Sutherland's name for Best Actor in a TV Miniseries, he began to laugh. Well, I guess he knew what you will only know after
Redemption.
