Look at life and films, differently...

« on: January 04, 2009, 02:46:PM »

Directed by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan, this movie is a visual masterpiece.

Set in 1930's colonial South India, this movie deals with a forbidden love story. English planter Henry Moores (Linus Roache, of Law and Order fame) is having an affair with his house maid Sajani (Nandita Das).

Rahul Bose plays his foreman and friend, and Jennifer Ehle plays his wife. Set against the backdrop of the emerging Gandhi and Quit India movement, this movie has a haunting background score, is sensitively made and is an engaging drama/tragedy to watch.

4/5

Interesting! I hadn't heard of this. Sandeep, did you watch this on the big screen, or have a DVD of it that you could lend?

Oh? The number of movies I seem to have missed by not attending that one year just keeps surmounting.

I saw this in LA, on the big screen. Visually great, but it gets a little melodramatic. My American friend couldn't understand the historical background at all. I had to explain to her, so she could better appreciate the film. Fucking ignorant Americans.
