Based on a work by Joseph Karon, The Good German centers on an American reporter stationed in Europe during World War II. Under the guise of covering the final Allied campaign, the reporter sets out to find a former lover. Instead, he gets entangled in a murder mystery. George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh re-unite and produce through their Section Eight production company. Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco) scripted the adapted screenplay.

Clooney in B&W is natural. He has that Cary Grant look down pat.

So right. I've seen one Cary Grant movie (N by NW) - and I really liked his mannerism.

Fizz, after one classic I saw earlier this month, I'd be interested in watching more B&Ws. Besides Hitchcock and Romances, any that you would recommend (and lend)?

This is a topic of its own, but you could (and should) start with Mr. Bogart. Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, treasure of Sierra Madre and The big sleep are unmissable. I have all of these except Casablanca (it's too great for paltry DivX, I want to buy the DVD, but haven't gotten down to it).

Looking at my list of recommendations I just realised, like colour films, there is no way to say which b&w film to watch first, since they span many genre's. However a good place to start is with film noir - a genre that used the limitations of b&w to its advantage. By that account, all the recommendations, except Casablanca and perhaps treasure are noirs, with the Maltese Falcon being a landmark - the first wave of classic noir, that ended in 57 with Touch of Evil.

Can you make copies of Maltese Falcon, and any other noirs you have then?

man oh man.am i looking forward to this movie or what!!! i bet it's gonna be the best movie of the year.it's ironic, cos i was just watching the special features of The Crow, and Brandon Lee mentioned that he wished if The Crow was made entirely in black and white but due to the shit reality of movies business, they didn't allow it.

who would've thunk it in 10 years or so it would become a trend? maybe it's time someone opens a new thread and call it "Modern Black and White movies".

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

awsome! i bet Adnan and Fizz will love this artwork as well.

it's too early to predict but i think it's quite obvious now that the oscar for best picture is going to either The Good german,Little Children or Bobby.or probably fags of our father to make the repulicans assholes happy..

Wow! The same fonts, colors, and even the dots between the names of the stars on top!

Tobey M looks dorky though.

I'd hardly call it a ripoff...Casablanca is such a popular, mass appeal film that the connection is obvious to anyone who has seen the poster even once. I'd call it admiration or homage even.
