By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

East is East is a wonderful, heartwarming comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed the cultural references and the jabs at Bollywood.
If you want a similar film (settings, thematic) but more sombre, serious and thought-provoking, you can't go wrong with
My Son the Fanatic
. It is a very memorable film, one that features a truly excellent performance by Om Puri (also in this film).

I also agree that East is East is a great movie. I fell in love with it when I saw it 9 years back

True that. Apart from
Guru
, I haven't seen
Jimmy Mistry
in other movies - he is charismatic enough onscreen to deserve more.

ok get this...apparently, there's a sequel to this called "West is West" which has been screened in a few festivals but it's coming out as soon as FEB in the UK.
i bet none of you knew this...which makes me "cool" for this new year weekend,at least..

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name
Where's your crown King Nothing?

Sorry to split your ego dude, but I think all of us knew about the sequel and even decided not to go all the way to Abu Dhabi to watch it. If you want, I'll even paste the google chat where Shariqq and I discuss this possibility.
