The first time I saw Charlotte Gainsbourg was in Todd Haynes' lucid masterpiece "I'm Not There." She played Heath Ledger's wife, who he unintentionally ignores then loses. Charlotte had struck me immediately because hers was an unusual beauty: more womanly, more sensual than sexual, more like, like the kind of woman I wanted to be smacked around by; the kind of woman who'd make me want to be a 'man'; the kind of woman I want to be married to. My woman. My wife. My Charlotte.

Anyways, who wants to listen to poor ol' AK and his miserable thoughts on desire, right? On with the review....

I never knew  Charlotte Gainsbourg also sang until I discovered 5:55, which I had thought would be another embarrassing attempt by an actress to 'diversify.' How wrong I was.

5:55 is a beautiful, lush album written by Englishman Jarvis Cocker, composed by French electro-pop duo Air and produced by the famous Nigel Goodrich. So, right away you know it is going to be special. Charlotte's sexy voice and her French accent lend even more sexiness to the laid-back downtempo vibe of the record. Very very dreamy.

Charlotte Gainsbourg is beautiful. And she makes beautiful music. Since I can't have her, this album will have to do.

Favorite tracks: "AF607105," "The Operation," "Everything I Cannot See," "Morning Song," "Beauty Mark"

Hmm...Jarvis Cocker! He is a fantastic writer....

Ak, interesting discovery. What kind of music is it?

Like I said elsewhere, she inherited some great genes. Her father, Serge, is a musical legend.

She's working with some of the best in the craft: Jarvis Cocker and Nigel Godrich (Radiohead's long time producer).

Great find, ak. I had no idea she was making music either.

I would categorize it as downtempo, electro-pop. If you like Zero 7 or Air, you'll love this.

Here's my most favorite cut from the album, "AF607105" (hope it plays for you EtiSlut customers):

I also cannot ignore this wonderful song, "Everything I Cannot See." Jean Benoit's piano is pure bliss.
