Finally!! I saw the trailer to this game long back, and haven't been this excited for a game for so long. Not that I like such games much, but just the prospect of these two universes co-existing in the same game is geekdom come.

...and the cover has been released with art by... Alex Ross!

Midway Games Inc. is expecting "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe" to be on store shelves and available for purchase throughout North America on November 16th, 2008, and Europe on November 21st, 2008. On those dates, gamers will be able to purchase the highly-anticipated pairing of some of the iconic characters from the DC Universe, like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Joker, battling against video game icons Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Sonya and more.

Last week Midway released the final box art along with details of the North American Kollector's Edition (see below), which will come in special packaging and feature an exclusive removable print designed by Alex Ross, one of the world's most pre-eminent and respected comic book artists, as well as bonus video content. In addition, John Tobias, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, returns to sketch a 16-page comic book to be published by DC Comics that chronicles the shocking, universe-shattering events that lead up to the in-game story mode.

Humour me as I keep geeking out on this.

The official website: http://www.worldscollide.com
The website is very well designed. The amount of media it has to excite you (or me) is undeniably awesome. It does ask you for your age for verification before you can enter it. It has the three trailers released before. Each of them is awesome, and shows how the DC characters are so well designed. Midway's done the game, so the MK characters are pitch-perfect as expected anyway. The site's also got many screen-shots from actual game-play (I've put some of them below here.)

I'm posting this as I'm discovering it:

In "KOMBATANTS", they've got HI-RES downloadable posters for all the characters. Funnily enough, the only one that doesn't work is Joker's!

Example of The Flash below. Click-through for a full-res version.

Interesting concept...i wonder if noble characters like Superman and Wonder Women will go on a bloody, killing frenzy when the screen shouts "Finish him!".

Also, its to note how DC is underplaying Superman as a representation of their universe with Batman on the marketing of this.

It's actually more representative of the game-play. Normally it is sub-zero, Liu Kang or Rayden who fly the MK flag. But for this game it is Scorpion and Reptile. They're looking at a bloody mess, and these characters work for it.

Interestingly, the buzz is to look out for the fatality ("Finish Him") of the Joker!

Would be cool if he sliced peoples heads off with ace.

If this game doesn't get a PSP rlease (it's destined for PS3 and X-box 360), and if its reviews are any good - I might get the PS3 for this. Or I''ll just put up tent at Sammy's place!

To answer your query:

Quote
All of the characters except Darkseid, Shao Kahn, and Dark Kahn have finishing moves; the Mortal Kombat characters and the DC villains will execute fatalities, while the DC heroes will execute moves called "heroic brutalities," which function in the same manner, but stays in tone with the heroes who have an established reputation of not killing their enemies. These finishing moves are only available in arcade mode and versus mode

It's only on the PS3 and the XBox-360, so I didn't get to play it. Anyone else? Sammy?
