Look at life and films, differently...

« on: September 21, 2008, 02:04:PM »

As a critic rightly put it 'Do yourself a favour: Watch A WEDNESDAY.'

Flawless, real cinema, not preachy or patriotic, it brings to the front a thought process which we all embody. Cant tell you much about the film, except that watch it now while its playing.

Excellent performances by Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah and Jimmy Shergil. With a fast paced plot and no songs, at just under 2 hours, this movie is Bollywood at its best!

4/5

This could have so easily gone down the toilet as a crap 'wannabe' movie. But it didn't and I was happy that they didn't sell out to wanting to be 'cool' and 'stylish'. And they give a certain element of indian cinemas and life in india (you'll know what i'm referring to when you watch the movie) the real life update and respect that it needed.

I was honestly disappointed with this. It was way too amateurish for me. The director should have stuck to the serious tone, instead of bringing a few comedic moments here and there. That was not needed. The dialouges were appalling and the social message was just wrong. Fine I agree that people need to stand up and make themselves heard, but to go ahead and take the law in your owns hands is a no no. Let the cops do their work and you should do yours. The last part when Naseer keeps talking was also a tad to long and got boring though he was articulate and you could sense that he actually meant it.

A very average fare.

So is this more in the vein of "Aakhree Raasta [The Last Option]"?

Big B kicks major ass in a double-role! It's an over-the-top, melodramatic but very compelling revenge story. Here's another reason to see it: Jaya Prada gets raped, then commits suicide.

Aakhri Raasta is your regular 80s masala movie. AB actually has a triple-role in it (the dad!). You can't really forget that movie once you've seen it - And Sridevi in those tight sweaters...

This movie reminds one of the way Amitabh took the law in his hands in a recent movie, to avenge his son's death. Movie was called 'Virrudh'

Oh yeah, I didn't agree with the message the film sent, neither did any of the people I went with. I didn't like Rang De Basanti for the same reason. And yes, the extra screentime naseer gets to display his frustration with the system and make clear he's representing RK Laxman was not needed. The comic moments were ok - it would have been a better movie without them, but the director was probably looking for at least something to hook the regular masses with.

I haven't seen it, but this sounds like a remake of "In the Bedroom," which itself was a remake of Bergman's "The Virgin Spring."
