For me, MEMENTO is the gold standard when it comes to Nolan. Followed very closely by....INSOMNIA. Yes!  It's such an underrated film.  Despite being a remake, it manages to stand on its own (I believe I did a side-by-side review of the original Norweigan film and the Nolan remake -- just search for it). And it contains all of Nolan's personal interests backed up by impeccable craftsmanship including Wally Pfister's best work as a cinematographer.

PRESTIGE is very good, and my only major problem with it is its over-cooked plot. Other than that, there is some rich subtext in the film (some which Nolan intended, other he didn't, but rich none-the-less).

I'm not a big fan of Memento. In fact, when I first saw it (back in 2000), I liked it for its unique structure only. I've seen it twice since (last time in 2009), and I recognize the genius in it now. But I find little to celebrate in it apart from that narrative. I do like the movie. But don't love it.

I've seen Insomnia once, never saw it again, I'll give it a watch again though. Apart from The Following (excellent movie!), it's the only Nolan DVD I don't own.

Agreed about Insomnia -- very underrated. In addition to Pfister's great camera work, the claustrophobic mood is enhanced further by David Julyan's restrained and rather eerie score (he also scored Memento and The Prestige).

I need to watch it again.
