The Illusionist (2006)

after watching 'The Prestige', (which released much after this one!) I really want to watch it... though I am sure the stakes of the genre have been raised for 'The Illusionist'

The Illusionist for me would have been a complete waste, if Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti & Rufus Sewell holding fort. The illusions were a sham & the "revelation" was a wash-out. This was like a wet tissue passing off for a diploma. Either the director really thinks his audience is stupid, or the characters within the movie were too stupid to realize what actually was happening. The whole movie might have made more sense if Norton had time-traveled from a smarter era (past or future) and made a fool of everyone else - atleast in how simplistic his "plot" was.

2/5 from me - just for the three men.

The relevation at the end was unnecessary and typical of a movie in the 00s (every other movie has a fucking twist ending), but Edward Norton and his magics, were really great. You could see it was CGI, and it was STILL fasinating to watch.
