TV Guide has learned that Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under) and Carlo Rota will return for "24" season six and that Alexander Siddig is playing a baddie:

Just got off the phone with my 24 mole and he/she informs me that Eric Balfour has signed on to reprise his Season 1 role as independent CTU contractor Milo Pressman. My spy wouldn't say how Milo would be re-introduced, but he'll be sticking around for awhile: Balfour will be credited as a series regular.

In other 24 news, former Star Trek: Deep Space Nine doc Alexander Siddig (Syriana) is joining the cast as one of the evil-doers behind the big Season 6 plot. Additionally, Carlo Rota (aka Mr. Chloe O'Brien) will be back as a series regular.

"24" returns to Fox in January.

I'm glad you started a thread on this, Kaytee, I had left "24" mid-S4 (because I got a little tired of superhero Jack and his multiple "longest day of my life" rountine)

But the series, despite its novelty, has been getting great critical responses. I'd like to start from S4 again. Kaytee, can you help at all?

Of course I can help you with 24, you shall get season 4 and 5 when we meet next. The 5th season is being raved about by everyone and it managed to notch up quite a few Emmys nominations too. But I honestly didnt think it was that good a season. Honestly this show would be nothing with Kiefer Sutherland.
Alexander Siddig was great in Syriana, but he has choice about his being typecast. Either be an Arab Terrorist or sit at home and keep struggling for a job.

Can't remember Balfour's part in season 1 ... too long ago. But I remember seeing him last in erotic film LIE WITH ME, another flick which shows images of graphic sex .(e.g. fellatio)

Some great news coming out for the new season of 24.

Our very own Kumar (Kal Penn) has joined the cast of 24 for the new season. He has also confirmed that Harold and Kumar are both going to Amsterdam (Yah Baby!!) for the sequel.

He also confirms that the Van Wilder sequel Van Wilder Deux: The Rise of Taj is also on.

Penn inks for spot in new '24' plot

Kal Penn has joined the cast of Fox's action drama "24" as a recurring. The "Harold & Kumar" star will play a guy who is somehow involved with the Islamic guru running the neighborhood mosque and might be the key to a terrorist plot. Penn, along with John Cho, toplined New Line Cinema's 2004 comedy "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and is attached to the upcoming sequel, "Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam." Penn, whose most recent credits include the feature "Superman Returns" and ABC's untitled Danny Comden comedy pilot, next stars in the feature comedy "Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj," a sequel to the 2002 film "Van Wilder" film centered on Penn's character Taj. Penn is repped by the Gersh Agency, Dan Spilo of Artistry Management and attorney Michael Fuller.

Cromwell and Izzard Clock-In on 24

Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actor James Cromwell (Babe, "Six Feet Under") and Emmy Award-winning actor Eddie Izzard ("Dress to Kill," My Super Ex-Girlfriend) join the season six cast of "24." The clock for "Day Six" will begin to tick in January, Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

The highly respected Cromwell will recur this season as Phillip Bauer, the estranged father of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), while British actor/comedian Izzard will portray a villainous accomplice, Darren McCarthy. In addition to Cromwell and Izzard, newcomers joining the pulse-pounding thriller include Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Marisol Nichols ("In Justice"), Alexander Siddig (Syriana) and Harry Lennix ("Commander in Chief"). Eric Balfour and Carlo Rota will reprise their respective roles as CTU contractors Milo Pressman and Morris O'Brian.

Some good words already coming for the Season 6.

Media Life's Andrew Lyon writes today that "one advantage of a show like 24 is that it need not worry too much about explaining such implausibilities, of which there are many. The breakneck pace just won’t allow for mulling over plot holes."

"Season six proves that the best part of 24 is its ability to make your pulse race as you sit slack jawed in front of the [TV] mumbling, 'They didn't just do that, did they?'," Goodman adds.

Variety's Brian Lowry echoed those sentiments in his January review.

"The four episodes...are far from flawless, but even with their lapses and excesses, I can hardly wait for the next hour," Lowry wrote. "24 provides the best of both worlds--thrilling escapism that invites you to check your brain at the door, and events that can be contemplated, off and on, until the train boards again 167 hours later.

New York Times TV critic Alessandra Stanley praises the show, and suggests even better things to come.

"24 remains remarkably compelling...The first four episodes suggest that this season could be one of the best thus far," she writes in Friday's edition.
