The most absurdly overrated franchise in history. And by that I mean the entire franchise in all its formats (comics, cartoon, film, etc.)

You must be the guy over 30 then...

I'm glad Shariq dragged our collective asses to "TMNT" -- what a clever, entertaining and easily likable film this turned out to be! The CGI was excellent, and I was particularly taken with the score.

It's disappointing when crud like the "Shrek" franchise can make tons of cash, while smart entertainment such as “TMNT” has to make its money on DVD (hopefully).

Looking forward to the sequel with THE SHREDDER.

Look at life and films, differently...

TMNT was a good watch, handled in an adult mature way, a lot of aspects were appealing because they were subtle and sensitive...

The CGI was fantastic, bordering on reality, it was done so well...

Enjoyable!

Seen it thrice in three days, including twice yesterday (Saw the 5pm show with wm gang, then 11pm with another bunch of friends).

Needless to say, I LOVED IT!! I'll try to write a detailed piece on it soon.

It's time someone broke my 5 times on the big screen for "Batman Begins" record.

I do equal the 5 times for LOTR:TTT and Lost World:Jurassic Park.

For TMNT, I'll try to keep my fingers crossed and wallet open

Quote
Mirage Studios' Steve Murphy has posted a message on his Blog saying that a TMNT sequel is looking more and more likely.

As of two weeks ago Imagi Entertainment (the TMNT movie animation studio) informed Mirage Studios that there was a 50-50 chance of a CGI film sequel. Last week they upped the odds to 70-30 in favor of a sequel, as talks between Imagi and their distribution partners Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Group seem to be heading in a positive direction...

The numbers are in Mirage Studios' favor, as the first film raked in $92.2 million worldwide ($54M domestic, $38.1M overseas), yet cost only $34 million to make.

TMNT (Munroe, 2007)
IMDB Link

“Four turtles. Four brothers. Genetically reborn in the sewers of New York. Named after the Renaissance masters and trained as ninjas.”

What I am sure of, is that my father, in his twenties, had no desire to revisit the cartoons of his childhood days. Times have changed, a lot of us are now in love with nostalgia.

“TMNT” is a revisit to my childhood, a retro ride to my days of turtles, robots, and GI soldiers. But I am not one to like something just for its nostalgia, and I am glad to say, that “TMNT” is more than that.

The director knows his audience. He knows that we are familiar with the turtles, so it doesn’t waste time establishing the characters or the back story, but at the same time, he doesn’t rely on selling his movie, but just triggering nostalgic feelings in us. April isn’t a reporter, there is no Shredder, and no reference to the popular cartoon theme song. What we have is a courageous reinvention of the franchise, and it works great.

The animation is fluid and fast, the action is exciting, and it is full of humor. I did not like the villains that much (I missed Shredder!), and I wished they focused more on Don and Mike, but it was so good, that I hope it we get a few sequels. Turtle power!
