HD-DVD was toast the day Warner Brothers decided to go Blu-ray exclusive.

Recently Netflix announced that they will stop stocking HD-DVD.

According to market surveys, Blu-ray enjoys incredible market share in the hi-def format.

Unlike the Beta vs. VHS debacle, this time round the best format has indeed won.

RIP HD-DVD. And good riddance, motherfucker.

Especially since Walmart is backing Blu-Ray. Goodbye HD-DVD.

Also "Blu-Ray", as a term, sounds way cooler.

"HD-DVD" sounds more like Bigfoot swearing at someone's mother.

HD-DVD gives people the idea they can use a regular DVDRom to read 'em, kinda misleading. Blu-Ray is intimidating!

Toshiba has announced they're stopping production of HD-DVD players.

People with HD-DVDs are free to use them as coasters for their coffee mugs.

I was this close to making that mistake about a month ago. Good thing that I did the sensible thing.

After all, I'm not a coffee fan.

Are there certain LCD TV's compatible with Blu-Ray? I bought an LCD Television more than a year ago, and it was apparently "HD-Ready". Any idea if that also implies if it's Blu-Ray ready? I'm not about to go buy a Bu-Ray DVD player yet... just gettin info.

Also, everytime i hear "Blu-ray" I remember the shrieks of the PS3 in this video: Smiley

Blu-ray is a hi-def technology. As long as your LCD supports full 1080p, you should be fine.

Most (cheaper) LCDs are either 1080i or 720p.

Then, you'll need a player. Wait for another one year, and -- now that the format war is over -- not only will the prices on Blu-ray players drop, but around that time we'll start seeing backward compatible units: meaning, in addition to playing Blu-ray discs, the new Blu-ray machines will also be capable of reading your standard DVDs. Patience bears sweet fruit.
