Books of Blood: Volume I (Clive Barker, 1984)After torturing myself with three self-help books, I needed a break, and what’s the best break to take than a short story horror book. Written by Clive Barker, “Books of Blood: Volume I” is a quick read and entertaining, but not much more can we say about it.
It is six short stories, and none of them actually scare me, but that is okay, I don’t think any horror book ever scared me (except for “The Shining” when I was 12).
Here are the short stories, spoiled for you and a reminder for myself since I’m almost certain I’ll forget them:
The Book of Blood: Young man tries to fool people by pretending a room is filled with ghosts that write on the wall, but he actually writes himself, so the ghosts grab him and write on his body.
The Midnight Meat Train: A guy murders people, hangs them up like butcher’s meat, and then sends them on a train to a secret stop where the original fathers of New York eat them.
The Yattering and Jack: A demon is trying to make a man insane as part of his demon job, but the man is so nonchalant, that nothing the demon does affects him.
Pig Blood Blues: Some kid kills himself and his ghost enters a pig and eats people.
Sex, Death and Starshine Zombies act in a play and watch it.
In the Hills, the Cities: In some Yugoslavian city, the citizens all gather up, get naked, climb onto each other, and turn themselves into some giant. Or something.
