Listening to this score takes me right into the film. It's such a rich, beautiful, elegant and -- dare I say -- romantic album that perfectly captures the Greek tragedy, the themes of fame and infamy of its visual counterpart, fusing the instrument in an organically Western sound.

Nick Cave and bandmate Warren Ellis have crafted a sublime record of haunting beauty using evocative piano and violin sets. In a year of daring mainstream films and collaborations between daring filmmakers  and musicians, the soundtrack Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford stands among the very best, which is saying a lot.

Favorite tracks: "The Money Train," "What Must Be Done," "Destined for Great Things," "Song for Bob," "Song for Jesse," "Cow Girl"...
fuck it! All of it! I love all of it!

Elegant, fucking elegant. I can't believe how good this soundtrack is. Really, words can't justify it. I get goosebumps just thinking about it now. Perhaps the best soundtrack of this decade. I don't know why I waited this long to get it. The score has such simple notes and compositions but with a greatly profound effect (especially the fusion of pianos and violins) and they form something as delicate as glass, making you remember those beautiful, stark shots of Pitt standing in an empty field. My biggest compliment is that all the tracks eventually fuse together to form a single 55 minute mood piece. They can be heard individually or back to back. As haunting as it is, it is uplifting in all the right ways too. A work of pure genius.

Narrative is the poison of cinema...There’s nothing more beautiful than elusiveness in cinema.
