Lost returns with season 4 on 31 Jan 2008 (unless affected by the WGA strike). Here's the extended S4 trailer. Fans of the show - join me and drool.

You know, I think they should give Oddy an honorary Emmy for his steadfast support of this show.

I have a feeling WGA is going to be, eventually, pressured into some lilly-ass compromise deal...because the studios and TV presenters like Leno and our favorite Jon Stewart (who is a WGA member) are all pushing ahead with production.
The real tragedy would be if the Oscars are canceled -- WGA is not giving them a waiver. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be very disappointed, although this has been a fantastic year for American cinema.

Maybe the fact that American cinema had a great year is exactly the reason for not having the Oscars.

Well, this show just works for me. Despite the temporary dip mid-season 2, they could not have made a better recovery than the brilliant S3 - not to mention the masterpiece of a cliffhanger they left us with in the finale.
The only word I can think of to describe my reaction to the S4 trailer is our own Mad's favorite exclamation:

The
Lost
website has a real cool 8 mins 15 secs recap of all the 3 seasons. I really enjoyed this catch up.

The irony in that brings a big smile to my face.

OK, let's get this out of the way first: This was a great opening episode.
Centered mostly around Hurley, this episode contains no flashbacks. Instead, the narrative shifts between "present-day" events that continue where things left off in the S3 finale, with the survivors making contact with parachutist Naomi's ship somewhere off-shore, and some time in the future (several flashforwards), also focusing on Hurley, who we now learn is another one of the "Oceanic 6", a term given by the media to the only six who actually ended up leaving the island (we already know that Jack and Kate did -- plus another mystery person hinted at in the S3 finale, who has died).
Meanwhile, back in present-day island, news of Charlie's death and his final warning message reach the island as Desmond makes it back from "The Looking Glass" underwater station. His death, and the realization that the people off-shore might not be who they seem to be, sets the scene for a superb climactic confrontation between Jack and Locke that literally splits the people into two groups, one that stays with Jack and still want to leave, and another that sides with Locke, who decides to leave the beach and take up refuge in the barracks, expecting the worse from the new visitors.
Hurley (in one flashforward) also gets visited by an unexpected friend.
All in all, a great start to the new season that sets up some real headscratchers. On the purely technical side, the direction was great, and so was the music, with some superb acting from Jorje Garcia (Hurley) - he really outdid himself here.
Lost is back, in a big way!

I love the fact that they stopped the flashbacks. The flashforwards have so much more meaning to them especially when we have no clue what has happened.
Loved the episode, great setup for things to come. With only 16 episodes this season, hopefully all episodes will move the story along.
