The Painted Veil (Curran, 2006)IMDB LinkThe thing about Edward Norton is that, since he does not do crazy thing in his personal life that much, you kind of forget him. I do not mean forget FORGET him, but still, whenever you see an Edward Norton movie, you go, “Man, this guy is good”. It is just a constant mini-surprise to know how good Edward Norton is.
Edward Norton and Naomi Watts are brilliant as the 1920’s British married couple who have grown apart. Well, I say grown apart, but what I mean is that they were never really that close. Watts has an affair, Norton becomes mad, and he takes her to a cholera-ridden village in China to teach her a lesson. I’d just slapped her around a bit. Saves time.
This part of the plot is the good part to me. It is complex, as you have two different characters, acting mostly in selfish and cruel ways, but not because they are bad people, but because they are people.
But theeeen, the movie becomes your normal romantic movie that will appeal more to women, than giant, muscular buff men like me.
Also, China looks beautiful in this movie.
