Thumbsucker (Mills, 2005)
IMDB Link

Oh no! Another coming of age, indie movie about a young, angsty person in suburbia America with a dysfunctional family. And of course, your indie look and the indie pop songs. It is annoying that the alternative to mainstream has become trite and repetitive.

I would not have watched this if I was not fooled by the synopsis of the movie. IMDB’s plotline is, “Justin throws himself and everyone around him into chaos when he attempts to break free from his addiction to his thumb.” I’m like, yes, I would like to watch that! I would like to watch a movie about a teenager with thumb sucking addiction. Seems new, and seems interesting to watch a movie from a different perspective. That is the most fascinating aspect of a movie to me, to gain insight in different things.

But the thumb sucking part actually does not play that important of a part. He kicks it after twenty minutes or so, and then is forgotten for the most part, and instead we get sad looking kid walking in slow motion with indie background music.

Anyway, zzz. These kinds of movies hit a low spot with “Garden State” and anything after that is just another tired, repetitive indie movie. Someone please put some life in this genre!

Oh yeah. If I had seen the poster before watching it, I might have ignored it. The poster has small drawings with captions like, “I <3 Broken”, “Childhood Begins at Forty”, “Honk if You are Flawed”. Come on!

I have to agree Mad, coming of age indie movies have become monotonous and shit boring...

I can watch anything with Keanu Reeves in it. After Bale has his way with me, duuuuude, I want K.E.A.N.U.

P.S. It seems we're the only ones appearing -- and in this same exact order -- in movie review threads. Everyone else must be dead. Hmph.

I'd write movie reviews. Thing is, I have to watch them first.
