I watched this over the weekend, and loved it. It's an action flick starring Forest Whitaker as an Assassin who lives by the Samurai code, by the name of 'Ghost Dog', an African American hitman employed by the Mafia, who follows the ancient code of the samurai as outlined in the book of Yamamoto Tsunetomo's recorded sayings, 'Hagakure' and communicates using carrier pigeons.

His methods in his kills are really slick, and his moves (changing the CD in the car he's stolen for the hit, and always cranking up the volume to 21, or holstering his gun) are all related to the 'ritualized ways of the Samurai'. Brilliant performance by Isaach De Bankolé, who plays his French-only speaking ice cream vendor best friend, Raymond, and it was hard to distinguish him from his role as the cold blooded Ugandan warlord Steven Obanno in Casino Royale.

By the time it ended, I regretted not watching Rashomon, even though it has nothing related to it.

It gets a 4/5. Really appeals to Leon (The Professional) fans.

I always wanted to see this, because it gets a lot of good reviews, and the only thing has stopped me was it being called "Ghost Dog" and seeming like a ghetto black guy is a ninja.

In that case it would've been called "Ghost Dawg".

LOL. You got that right! It's got a cameo by RZA too, which was hilarious.

I agree with Mad, Ghost Dog sounds a lot like a Steven Seagal movie. I shall try to get this and watch it soon.

This film is Jim Jarmusch's homage to "Le Samourai."

For best result, watch both back-to-back.

It's nothing like a Steven Seagal movie guys, Forest W can act and the movie has depth!

I'll see if I already have Le Samourai @ home somewhere.
